Today FM DJ Dec Pierce has revealed he’s been diagnosed with breast cancer, two years after suffering a brain haemorrhage.
The 46-year-old, best known for his Block Rockin’ Beats show, shared the news on Instagram, admitting it’s “not something I ever thought I’d be facing”.
Dec wrote: “Earlier this year, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. After the brain haemorrhage two years ago, it’s not something I ever thought I’d be facing – but here we are, and I’m taking it one step at a time.”
“I’ve already had two surgeries at the Mater Private and am now focusing on recovery and the next stage of treatment.
“I want to give my deepest thanks to the amazing medical teams who’ve looked after me, and to my family and friends for their love, strength, and support. I couldn’t do this without them.”
The radio DJ went on to thank his colleagues at Today FM for their support, as well as his bandmates, crew, and manager.
“I’m sharing this because it’s important to know that men can get breast cancer too. If you notice any changes – a lump, pain, swelling, or anything that doesn’t feel right – please get it checked. Despite his diagnosis, Dec revealed his upcoming gigs in Dublin, Mayo and Kerry will go ahead as planned.
“The journey has been tough, but I’ve come back before and I’ll come back stronger again.
“Music is healing, and that will never change. Cancer cannot beat me. The gigs will remain unchanged – I’ll see you all next month and well into 2026. Thank you for all your support. It means more than I can ever say.”
Dec was inundated with messages of support from his friends in the industry.
Champion boxer Kellie Harrington commented, “Sending you so much love, positive energy, and good vibes, you got this Dec ,” while fellow DJ and musician Jazzy wrote, “Sending you all the love and strength dec .”
Social media star Chris Connolly, aka Get Better With Chris, also commented, “Brother I hope you are ok, you’ve been through the battles in life mate no doubt you will get through this one aswel Godbless you mate I’ll say a prayer today for you and your family x.”
The news comes just over two years after Dec suffered a terrifying brain haemorrhage in February 2023.
The radio DJ was rushed to hospital after he started experiencing severe pain in his head while he was out for a run.
Dec subsequently spent weeks in intensive care, but thankfully made a full recovery.
