The little one was only five-years-old when she was left in critical condition
THE family of a little girl left with horrific injuries following a stabbing outside her school on Parnell Street two years ago have said the joy they see in her eyes “is enough to chip away any ache my heart carries.”
The girl, who turned seven recently, was left with severe injuries following the daylight attack in Dublin on November 23, 2023.
Two other children and a carer were also injured in the attack.
In an update this week, her family said they will be closing down the GoFundMe page set up to help with her medical needs at the end of November as the court case is set to begin next month.
A total of €142,065 has been raised to date for the young girl.
In an emotional post, her family gave an update of her progress, they said: “This Sunday the 23rd marks two years of the incident on Parnell Square, but it was a Thursday like this one that resonates in my mind.
“I have since dreaded Thursdays; constantly checking my phone to make sure everyone and everything is alright.
“2 years… 2 years! The pain is there, but it is not raw. It has been shelled by love and strength.
“The joy I see in my little girl’s eyes is enough to chip away any ache my heart carries. I do cry still, but not as often or as painfully as I did before.
“The cry is for missing the old her or imagining what we would be up to at 7 years of age.
“2 years of drive to live. 2 years of hard work and dedication. 2 years of relearning. And 2 years of us embracing this new girl we have been gifted with.
“Even though we still don’t know what will happen over the next two years, we are living in the moment and grateful for it.
“We are beyond thankful to all of those who have placed us in their prayers and who have been so generous to complete strangers.
“We are also humbled by all those people who showed everyone involved in the attack that day that kindness and help can come in all shapes and sizes, and that you did not do it for any other reason besides helping. You are truly heroic.
FOCUS ON FAMILY
“By the end of this month we will be taking this page down. We believe that it is time, plus we will focus on the legal proceedings due to commence in December.
“But most importantly, we will continue to focus on our family. All our appreciation from the bottom of our hearts.”
Following the incident, the girl was initially admitted to the ICU at Temple Street Children’s Hospital.
Along with two other children and their carer, all four victims were taken to hospital from their school Colaiste Mhuire at Parnell Square in Dublin.
The young girl was taken out of ICU just before Christmas 2024 but was readmitted in January after a “bump in the road” disrupted her recovery.
She officially returned home from hospital just before Christmas, in early December.
