Infant boy in critical condition after horrific two-car crash on busy road in Louth as teen girl & 2 adults hospitalised

Investigations into the crash are ‘ongoing’
AN INFANT boy is in a critical condition in hospital following a horrific two-car crash on a busy road in Co Louth.
Gardai have issued a new plea for info after four people were taken to hospital following the serious collision in Dundalk, Co Louth on Saturday.
The female driver of the first car, aged in her late 20s, was removed from the scene to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda with non-life-threatening injuries.
A passenger in that car, an infant boy, was removed to Temple Street Children’s Hospital where he remains in critical condition today.
The male driver of the second vehicle, aged in his early 50s, and the passenger, a teenager girl, were also taken from the scene to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital.
Neither of the two suffered life-threatening injuries.
Gardai and emergency services rushed to the scene of the crash on the R132 at Dowdallshill at around 8:10pm on Saturday night.
Gardai have confirmed investigations into the crash are now “ongoing” and today issued a plea for any witnesses to come forward.
A technical examination of the scene was conducted by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators on Saturday night.
In a statement this morning, a spokesperson for the force said: “Gardai are appealing for anyone who witnessed the collision to come forward.
“Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling on the R132 in the Dowdallshill area between 7:50pm and 8:20pm are asked to make it available to investigating Gardai.
“Anyone with information is asked to contact Dundalk Garda Station on 042 938 8400, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.
“Investigations are ongoing.”
Separately, tributes have poured in for an internationally renowned artist who sadly lost her life in a crash in Co Carlow.
Philippa Bayliss was sadly pronounced dead at the scene after being struck by a car in Myshall village – where she lived – on Monday evening.
The mum-of-three, who was aged in her 80s, studied at the Byam Shaw School of Art in London, with her paintings since being displayed in art galleries around the world.
Her work has been been showcased across Ireland, England, the USA and Mexico, with much being inspired by domestic gardens.
Her paintings are also displayed in private art collections worldwide.
A notice online said Ms Bayliss, who was the daughter of Capt HTT Bayliss RN and Patricia née Loftus and is predeceased by her former husband William Garner, died “suddenly, following an accident”.
It added: “Internationally renowned artist. Dearly missed by her loving children Nicholas, Temple and James, daughters-in-law Susan, Sandra and Charlotte, her adored grandchildren Padraig, Jonah, Henry, Amelia, Daniel, Lucy, Oliver and Benedict, brother Jack and sister Veronica, extended family, neighbours and friends.”
Gardai are continuing to appeal for any witnesses of the crash, which took place shortly before 5:30pm on Monday, to come forward.
