AMBER ALERT

Vogue Williams’ sister Amber reveals fear of ‘nasty’ online trolls before making history with RTE DWTS first

Amber has spoken of how she feels ‘deeply proud and privileged to represent my community’ as a gay woman dancing with another woman each Sunday night on Ireland’s biggest TV show
THE gay sister of Vogue Williams has revealed she fears online abusers as she prepares to take part in Dancing With The Stars.

Amber Wilson will make history in the first female same-sex pairing ever on DWTS with Ukraine-born professional Alex Vladimirov, when the show returns to screens in January.

But Amber, who has spoken about her experience of coming out to her family and campaigned for same sex marriage, admits she is already worried about online trolls.

Amber, 42, was one of several Irish celebrities targeted by toxic gossip website Tattle Life.

She said: “Hater comments, that’s my one concern. I’d be nervous about that, doing the show. So I don’t know what I’m going to do.

“If I can avoid reading them I will. I’m not going to search them out, not like I did that stupid bloody website on Tattle Life.”

The Howth, Co Dublin woman was speaking to Vogue, 40, on their podcast Vogue & Amber and was warned by her sis that the trolls can go into overdrive during Christmastime.

Vogue said: “Well, you are going to get them (hateful comments). I find with cruelty, it’s this time of year that people get mean. People have had a really hard year.

“It’s coming to the end of the year, they get stressed and take it out in places, Christmas is the worst for people getting a bit nasty online. So I’d say stay offline.”

Amber has spoken of how she feels “deeply proud and privileged to represent my community” as a gay woman dancing with another woman each Sunday night on Ireland’s biggest TV show.

Amber said: “When I was growing up, I didn’t have anyone on screen that I could really relate to. I’ve never seen myself as a role model, but I believe it’s important for audiences to see diverse and authentic representation.”

The former PR told how she will be out of her comfort zone and also revealed the tips she has picked up as the celebs get ready for their dance debuts on TV.

She said: “It’s all about your posture. What we say is ‘teeth and t**s over toes” but I’ve changed it so it’s “teeth and nose over toes, then you lean forward on the balls of your feet, tuck your tummy in. So there’s a lot to learn.

“Everyone thinks I’m a confident person. It’s easy to be controlled, in a safe space behind a screen podcasting. But if I do stuff in front of people, I get so nervous. So I have been practising in front of pro dancers and other contestants.”

Amber said she has already been warned by DWTS bosses that “her first dance is one of the most difficult dances to learn”.

‘I’M EXCITED’

She said: “So I’m glad I don’t know what it is. The show is live. You can’t redo anything, you only have one shot at a dance. I’m excited, it’s putting myself out of my comfort zone and facing fears. I’m going to embrace anxiety.

“Nobody goes out the first week. So if I don’t go out the second week, I’m happy. I’m very excited finally to be indulging in daily fitness, seven days a week — be both bolloxed and beefed up.”

Vogue revealed she won’t be in the studio to support Amber when she does her first live dance on January 4 as she’s away skiing.

TRIP CANCELLED

In fact, Amber was due to join her on the same winter break before she signed up for DWTS.

Vogue said: “But I am going to one of the live shows, I’m booking my flights.”

Amber joked that Irish supporters who had been unable to vote for Vogue in ITV’s I’m A Celebrity could make it up to the pair by backing her on DWTS.

She said: “Give me all the votes you didn’t give to Vogue in I’m A Celeb.”
