Dad, 40s, who died in Christmas Day e-scooter crash in Waterford named locally as tributes pour

TRIBUTES have been paid after the dead of a dad-of-two in a horror e-scooter crash in Co Waterford on Christmas Day.
Alan Walsh, aged in his 40s, was killed when his e-scooter was involved in a collision with a car in Waterford city at around 11am yesterday.

Mr Walsh was rushed to Waterford University Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
The driver of the car, a man in his 80s, was also taken to hospital, with injuries believed to be non life-threatening.
Mr Walsh’s heartbroken family said the dad, late of O’Sullivan’s bar and restaurant, would be sadly missed.
In a notice online, they said: “Predeceased by his grandparents and his nephews Thomas and Jack.
“Survived by his son Sean, daughter Ava, he will be sadly missed by his heartbroken mum Esther, dad Tommy, brothers Thomas and Mark, sisters Lorraine, Karen and Sarah, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, aunts, uncles, relatives, neighbours and friends.”
Announcing funeral arrangements, they confirmed Mr Walsh would be reposing at Thompson’s Funeral Home on Barrack Street in Waterford on Saturday January 3 from 12.30pm.
His funeral will take place at the Sacred Heart Church, Folly at 2.30pm on the same day, with burial immediately afterwards in St. Otteran’s Cemetery, Ballinaneeshagh, Cork Road, Waterford.
The family requested family flowers only, with donations if desired to Waterford Animal Welfare.
The family added: “The family appreciates your sympathy, support and understanding at this difficult time. Sympathy cards can be posted to Robert Thompson Funeral Directors, Barrack Street, Waterford.”
Tributes poured in after news of Alan’s death emerged.
One neighbour said: “Sending my deepest condolences to all the family on the tragic loss of Alan. Having grown up next door to him, I’ll always remember the laughs we had. Thinking of you all during this incredibly difficult time.”
Gardai yesterday appealed for information following the fatal collision.
A spokesperson said: “Gardai are appealing for witnesses following a fatal road traffic collision in Waterford city on Thursday December 25 2025.
“Gardai and emergency services were alerted to the collision involving a car and an e-scooter at the junction of Manor Hill (Bunker’s Hill) and Hennessy’s Road in Waterford city at approximately 11am.
“The driver of the e-scooter, a male in his 40s, was taken to University Hospital Waterford where he was later pronounced deceased.
“The driver of the car, a male in his 80s, was taken to University Hospital Waterford for treatment of injuries believed to be non life-threatening.
“No other injuries were reported.”
Gardai added: “Forensic Collision Investigators are conducting a technical examination of the scene and the roads remain closed. Local diversions are in place.
“Gardai are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this collision to contact them.
“Any road users, who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling on Manor Hill (Bunker’s Hill) and Hennessy’s Road between 10.45am and 11.15am are asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardaí.
