Man, 60s, dies after early-morning assault near small Irish town as gardai arrest man, 30s, and scene sealed amid probe

Gardai have issued a plea for information
A MAN, aged in his 60s, has died following an assault at a domestic residence outside a small town in Co Donegal.
Gardai and emergency services were alerted to an assault at a domestic residence near Ardara at around 3:50am this morning.
Emergency services rushed to the incident but a man aged in his 60s was sadly pronounced dead at the scene upon their arrival.
Gardai confirmed an investigation has been launched into the incident and an arrest has been made in connection with the assault.
A man, aged in his 30s, was arrested by gardai at a second location a short time after gardai were alerted to the assault.
He is currently detained under Section Four of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 at a garda station in Co Donegal.
The scene of the incident has been preserved for examination by the Garda Technical Bureau.
Gardai described the investigation into the incident as “ongoing” and urged anyone who may be able to assist in the probe to come forward.
A spokesperson for the force said: “The office of the State Pathologist has been notified.
“A Senior Investigating Officer has been appointed to lead the investigation and an incident room has been established at Ballyshannon Garda Station.
“A Family Liaison Officer has been assigned to support the family of the deceased.

“Investigations are ongoing.”
