Heartache as family of ‘adored’ dad-of-one, 21, confirm funeral details as tributes pour after tragic body find & probe

Taylor’s sister has told how her ‘heart is broke’
THE heartbroken family of an “adored” dad-of-one whose body was found in Co Tyrone a week after he went missing have confirmed his funeral details.
Taylor Stewart, 21, was last seen at around 5.30am on New Year’s Day in the Church Heights area of Cookstown, with a major search effort launched shortly after his disappearance.
PSNI Superintendent Peter Stevenson said search efforts were “complex” and covered “a lot of ground”, with the PSNI, Community Rescue Service, Search and Rescue Dog association and other rescue groups involved.
And Taylor’s grandfather, Mitchell Crooks, issued an emotional plea for his grandson, saying: “We just want Taylor to come home.
“The whole family is so worried about him, especially with the weather being so bad over the last few days.”
Sadly, the search for Taylor was stood down following the discovery of a body on Wednesday afternoon.
In a heartbreaking post on social media following the tragic news, Taylor’s sister Paige said: “My heart is broke.”
She had previously told how she and the young man’s mother “would search until they die” to find her little brother.
Flowers, candles and tributes have been left at the scene where Taylor’s body was discovered in Cookstown.
The PSNI has since confirmed that a post-mortem examination has been carried out and the force does not suspect a crime element in his death.
A spokesperson said: “Cause of death is undetermined following a post mortem and further tests will be required.
“Police enquiries into the circumstances of Taylor’s disappearance and death are ongoing; however there is currently nothing to suggest any crime has been committed.”
‘BEAUTIFUL BOY’
Taylor’s family has confirmed his funeral service will take place in the family home at 1pm on Saturday, followed by interment in Sandholes Presbyterian Churchyard.
The family has requested the house remains strictly private and said any desired donations can go towards the Community Rescue Service in Cookstown.
Taylor’s death notice reads: “Stewart January 7, 2026 (tragically) Taylor Wayne Robert, 30 Tullyard Road, Sandholes, Cookstown, adored dad of Tommy, much loved son of Chanelle, cherished brother of Paige, much loved grandson of Mitchell and Minnie, Robert and Hetty and a treasured nephew and cousin.”
Heartbreaking tributes have been pouring in for the young man following the discovery of his body.
One mourner said: “Forever 21 beautiful boy.”
Another added: “Rest in peace Taylor. Gona miss ya pal.”
A third added: “Heartbreaking news. A lovely lad. Thinking of all the family and friends at this incredibly difficult time.
“Praying for strength for the days ahead. May Taylor rest in eternal peace.”
