Heartache as man, 60s, dies in house fire in Co Cork as scene sealed off and Gardai investigate

A MAN in his 60s has died after a blaze broke out in a house in Cork city in the early hours of this morning.

The fire occurred in a property on Noonan Road on the southside of the city around 3am.

Fire crews and emergency services rushed to the scene after the alarm was raised by a Bord Gais employee. 

Cork City Fire Brigade arrived at the scene at 3.37am, a few minutes after the fire was reported.

Fire crew forced themselves into the house and found the man unresponsive. 

He was removed from the house and crews began trying to resuscitate him while waiting for the ambulance to arrive.

The casualty was treated by National Ambulance Service staff at the scene and rushed to Cork University Hospital.

Sadly, he was pronounced dead some time later in hospital. 

A post-mortem examination will be carried out in due course.

The scene has been sealed off this morning as Garda Forensic Investigators examine it. 

A Garda spokesperson told The Irish Sun: “Gardai are investigating a fatal house fire that occurred in the early hours of this morning Sunday 23rd November, 2025 at approximately 3am at a residential property on Noonan Road, Cork.

“Gardai and emergency services attended the scene and one male, aged in his 60s was removed from the scene to Cork University Hospital, where he later passed away.

“A post mortem will take place in due course.”

The scene is currently preserved and investigations ongoing.

A spokesperson for the Cork City Fire Brigade told The Irish Mirror: “A male in his 60s has died following a house fire on Noonan’s Road last night. 

“The fire was reported by an employee of Bord Gais, and the fire service arrived on the scene within four minutes.

“When they arrived, they forced their way inside the home and found a man in his 60s lying unconscious. 

“The casualty was recovered, and crews began trying to resuscitate him while waiting for the ambulance to arrive.

“The casualty was then handed over to the care of the National Ambulance Service, who treated him at the scene before transporting him to Cork University Hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased. 

“Garda Forensic Investigators are at the scene this morning, and the property has been sealed off.”
