Ciara Mageean shares heartfelt update on her cancer diagnosis: ‘I still have a long road ahead’

Ciara Mageean has shared a candid update on her cancer diagnosis.

In July, the Olympic runner announced that she had been diagnosed with cancer.

Since then, Ciara has remained fairly quiet on social media and has refrained from posting updates about her treatment.

Six months on, the Irish sports star has now shared an update on her diagnosis.

On Thursday, Ciara took to Instagram to post a collection of photos from recent months, including her chemotherapy treatment and her Christmas celebrations with her loved ones.

In the caption of her post, Ciara confirmed that she has completed 12 rounds of chemotherapy treatment.

“I’ve been pretty absent on here the last few months, so I thought I’d share a little life update. I finished my 12th round of chemo just before Christmas, which meant I had a lovely chemo free Christmas with my famil,” she penned.

“The past few months have been a mixed bag of cuddling Sam our wee springer spaniel on the sofa, and spending time with my nearest and dearest when my energy returned. Without them I would be lost ,” she admitted.

“I want to say thank you to everyone who has sent me such kind words of support over the past few months. I’ve shed so many tears reading your beautiful messages, on those tough days they really gave me a lift. So thank you, from the bottom of my heart,” she continued.

Ciara ended her update by adding: “I still have a long road ahead but for now I’m continuing to find the joy in every day. ”

Many of Ciara’s fellow Irish stars have since been commenting their support, with singer Una Healy writing: “Sending you love and strength .”

“You’re the best ,” added sports star Robert Heffernan.

On July 4, Ciara took to Instagram to announce that she was battling cancer.

At the time, she shared: “To everyone who’s been part of my journey so far, I have some difficult news to share: I’ve been diagnosed with cancer.

“It’s been a lot to take in, but I’ve already started treatment and I’m incredibly grateful to be surrounded by the love and support of my family and close friends.

“Right now, my focus is on healing and taking things one day at a time. I kindly ask that you respect my privacy and that of my loved ones as we move through this together. Your understanding means more than I can say.

“Thank you for the love and strength. I’m ready to face this with the same fight I’ve always brought to the track. ,” she added.
