GARDAI have launched a major probe after man in his 30s died following his car entering water in Co Cork.

Gardai made the tragic discovery off Conna Road R628, at around 10am this morning.

The car was discovered off the stretch in the water of the River Bride.

The sole occupant of the car, a man in his 30s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

His body was removed to Cork University Hospital today and a post mortem will follow.

The road remains closed today as Gardai conduct a technical examination.

Gardai believe the fatal crash happened at some time after 10pm yesterday and 10am this morning.

However, the exact sequence of events remains unclear and as a result investigators have launched a major witness appeal.

They are eager to speak to anyone who may have footage from the road either from this morning or last night.

In a statement a spokesperson said: “Gardai are appealing for witnesses following a fatal road traffic collision on the Conna Road R628, Co. Cork which occurred between Friday 19th December and Saturday 20th December 2025.

“The male’s body was removed to Cork University Hospital where a post-mortem examination will take place in due course.

“The road remains closed pending a technical examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators. Local diversions are in place.

“Gardai are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this collision to contact them.

“Any road users, who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were traveling on the Conna Road R628 between 10:00pm on Friday 19th and 10:00am on Saturday 20th are asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardai.
