FIOSRÚ IS INDEPENDENTLY investigating a fatal road traffic incident that occurred in Foxrock, Co Dublin last week, on Monday 8 December.
The 75-year-old man was hit by a car and pronounced dead at the scene.
The case was referred to the police ombudsman by gardaí and one of Fiosrú’s on-call investigators attended the scene.
Such incidents must be referred to Fiosrú if any matter appears to indicate that the act or omission of a garda member may have resulted in the death of or serious harm to a person.
The investigating team have engaged with the family concerned and will continue to do so.
Fiosrú are now appealing for any witnesses to the incident to come forward, asking anyone who was in the vicinity of the N11, Foxrock, near the junction of the Church of Our Lady of Perpetual Succour that evening to get in touch.
The ombudsman said anyone who was in the area at around 6:45pm, or any passing vehicles including taxis that may have dash cam footage or camera footage, is asked to pass this on to investigators.
