Body of woman discovered by walker in Tipperary drain as Gardai launch probe into ‘all circumstances’ surrounding death

A GARDA investigation has been launched into the circumstances surrounding the discovery of a woman’s body in Co Tipperary yesterday.

Cops have confirmed that a body was discovered near the Holy Year Cross in Clonmel, Co Tipperary.

It is understood the horrific discovery was made by a walker at around 3pm on Monday.

The body was reportedly discovered in a drain just off the roadway.

The Garda Technical Bureau is currently examining the scene near Holy Year Cross, which remains preserved at this time.

It is also understood that a preliminary examination of the woman’s body will be carried out at the scene this morning.

Gardai have not confirmed a cause of death with a full post-mortem examination due to be carried out.

The woman’s body is set to be removed to University Hospital Waterford.

Investigators have notified the State Pathologist and the local Coroner.

Cops are also investigating if the case relates to the disappearance of a local woman in her 30s who was reported missing last month

Gardai confirmed this morning that the results of the post-mortem will determine the course of the investigation.

In a statement, the force said: “Gardai are investigating all the circumstances surrounding the discovery of a woman’s body in Clonmel, Co. Tipperary on Monday, 22nd December 2025 shortly before 3pm.

“The Garda Technical Bureau is currently examining the scene, which remains preserved at this time.

“The office of the State Pathologist and the local Coroner have been notified and a post-mortem examination will be arranged.

“The results of the post-mortem will assist investigating Gardaí in determining the course of the investigation.”
