Irish actors Jessie Buckley & Paul Mescal nominated for Golden Globe awards for roles in acclaimed drama Hamnet

This is Mescal’s first Golden Globe nomination
PAUL Mescal and Jessie Buckley have received Golden Globe nominations for their roles in new Hamnet flick.
Maynooth native Mescal and Kerry woman Buckley star alongside each other in Chloe Zhao’s film adaptation of Maggie O’Farrell’s best-selling novel.

Paul has been nominated for Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in a Motion Picture Drama.
While Buckley is among the Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture Drama nominees.
Mescal faces some stiff competition from the likes of Jacob Elordi, Sean Penn and Stellan Skarsgard, who have also been nominated in the same category.
This marks the Normal People hunk’s first Golden Globe nominations – after fans claimed he was “snubbed” for his work on Gladiator II last year.
Meanwhile, Buckley will face off to huge A-listers like Jennifer Lawrence, Julia Roberts and Tessa Thompson.
The winners will be revealed during the 83rd Golden Globes ceremony in Los Angeles on January 11, 2026.
The Irish duo’s latest project Hamnet is based on a book about William Shakespeare and his wife Agnes.
It also focuses on one of the defining events of their lives, the death of their 11-year-old son Hamnet.
The loss leads William to write the tale of a dame in an existential crisis.
The play takes their little boy’s name as its title, Hamnet and Hamlet being virtually synonymous, and secures Shakespeare‘s legacy.
Hamnet is set for release in Irish cinemas this January 6, 2026.
And that’s not the only Irish leading lady Mescal has been starring alongside.
Saoirse Ronan and Paul are set to play Paul McCartney and Linda McCartney in director Sam Mendes’s The Beatles – A Four-Film Cinematic Event.
US trade publication Deadline, claimed they have been told by “multiple sources” that Ronan has joined the cast of the upcoming biopics, with each film focusing on a different member of The Beatles.
Deadline reported: “Ronan is expected to feature prominently in the instalment centred on McCartney, though it’s unknown to what extent she might appear in the other three.”
Paul and Saoirse previously starred together in the 2023 sci-fi thriller Foe.
The Carlow actress is expected to delve deep into the life and times of Linda McCartney, a photographer, musician, and animal rights activist who wed Paul McCartney in 1969 and was his bandmate in his post-Beatles outfit Wings.
Linda passed away from cancer in 1998.
Each of Sam Mendes four Beatles films will tell the story of a different Beatle with Normal People star Paul as Paul McCartney.
