Labour Mocked Over ‘UK Turning a Corner’ Post as Small Boats Crisis Left Off Policy List

Labour has been mocked by hundreds of social media users after its official X account claimed Britain is “turning a corner” in 2026.

The post included 11 policies Sir Keir Starmer’s Government is planning to implement in the next 12 months, including cutting NHS waiting lists and opening thousands of free breakfast clubs.

However, Labour made no commitment to “smashing the gangs” after more than 41,000 crossed the Channel last year.

The post sparked fury among hundreds of social media users, with dozens calling on Sir Keir to resign.

Users often responded directly to Labour’s message about “turning the corner”.

One user wrote: “You all resigning then?”

Another quipped: “Are we getting a general election? That’s the only way we turn any corner.”

A third added: “You’ve been in power for 552 days. Your tweet is a basic admission that those 552 days have been a failure.”

Keir Starmer began his first cabinet meeting of the year on a defiant note, saying that ‘Britain is turning the corner’

However, one user even pointed out that immigration was not listed in Labour’s post.

They wrote: “No mention in this thread of tackling illegal migration, which is one of the major concerns of the electorate?!”

Immigration remains a salient topic among voters, particularly those switching support to Reform UK.

Total Channel crossings stood at 41,472 last year, falling just short of the record-busting 45,000 in 2022.

The social media post was supposed to spread positivity, but instead the comments suggest anything but

The response also appeared to reflect wider dissatisfaction with the Labour Government.

More than three million people previously signed a petition demanding an immediate General Election, with subsequent petitions garnering one million and 150,000.

Meanwhile, opinion polls show Labour’s support has tanked since 2024, with the Prime Minister’s approval rating plummeting to minus 59 per cent.

Reform UK is now forecast to win a stonking majority if a snap poll was held today, a recent More in Common MRP survey has revealed.

However, Sir Keir issued a defiant statement to his frontbench colleagues in his first Cabinet meeting of 2026.

The Prime Minister said: “A Labour Government renewing the country or a Reform movement that feeds on grievance, decline and division.

“They want a weaker state, they want to inject bile into our communities, they want to appease Putin.

“This is the fight of our political lives and one that we must relish.

“I do not underestimate the scale of the task. But I have no doubt about this team. Governments do not lose because polls go down. They lose when they lose belief or nerve. We will do neither.”
