Jess Glynne vanished just as Alex Scott was voted out, and many blamed her — but once the truth came out, it turned out Jess was the one who needed comfort the most: her mother had suffered a major stroke and required emergency surgery. Jess also spoke out, furious over Alex Scott’s lack of airtime and the heartbreaking family crisis that kept her away
Jess Glynne has shared the devastating personal reason she was unable to greet her girlfriend Alex Scott as she became the first contestant voted out of I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! on Friday night.
The singer revealed that her mother recently suffered a major stroke and required urgent brain surgery, explaining that she had to remain by her family’s side during what she described as a “serious, life-altering time.”
Jess, 36, opened up only an hour after Alex walked off the iconic bridge, taking to Instagram to share both her heartbreak and frustration that Alex “didn’t get the airtime to show how incredible she really is.” She wrote that her partner “might be out earlier than she ever deserved, but I’m unbelievably proud of her.”
Anticipating questions about her absence, Jess explained that she wanted people to know the truth: her mum’s sudden medical emergency meant she needed to stay close to home. She added that Alex “would always want me to be where I’m needed most,” promising she “can’t wait to have her back by my side.”

With Jess unable to attend, Alex was instead met by close friend Regan Coleman, who escorted the emotional presenter back to the hotel. Speaking to Ant and Dec moments after leaving the jungle, Alex said she felt “free” but admitted the experience had been “mentally tough.” Still, she insisted she wasn’t disappointed to be the first voted out, saying she cherished the connections and laughter she shared with her campmates.
Alex caused a stir when she admitted someone in camp “keeps leaving the toilet seat up” and jokingly pointed the finger at “a national treasure,” widely understood to be Martin Kemp. She also confessed to smuggling salt into the camp by hiding packets in her sock, which earlier cost the team a precious star.

Before crossing the bridge, Alex named Shona McGarty as her pick to win, adding that seeing Shona crowned champion would give the actress “the confidence boost she deserves,” though she also praised Ginge and Aitch.
Fans on social media were shocked to see Alex eliminated so early, with many calling the decision “sad” and “unexpected.”

Jess concluded her message saying she hopes the public understands why she wasn’t at the bridge, reiterating that supporting her mother through recovery had to come first.
