First picture of woman, 70s, killed in tragic St Stephen’s Day crash in Co Down as police issue witness appeal

It comes after a man, 20, was also killed in a “serious” crash
A WOMAN, 73, has died after a serious two-vehicle road collision in the Downpatrick area, Co Down on St Stephen’s Day.

The woman has been named locally as Angela Feenan, who was from the area and was well known in the community.

She died at the scene following the crash on the Ardglass Road, which happened at around 5.40pm during the early evening.

Ms Feenan had been driving a black Seat Arona when it was involved in a collision with a white Vauxhall Insignia.

Emergency services attended shortly after the crash was reported, where the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Vauxhall Insignia, a man in his 40s, was taken to hospital for treatment following the collision.

Police have said his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening, and he remains under medical care.

The Ardglass Road was closed for a period of time to allow emergency services and investigators carry out examinations at the scene.

The road has since fully reopened to traffic following the of initial investigative work.

Police are continuing to investigate the collision and are keen to establish a full timeline of events.

And they have appealed to anyone who witnessed the crash, or who may have been travelling in the area at the time, to come forward.

They have also asked drivers with dashcam footage or nearby residents with CCTV to contact police.

Chief Inspector Simpson from the Collision Investigation Unit said: “Our enquiries are continuing, and we would appeal to anyone who witnessed the collision, or who may have digital footage which could assist with our investigation, to contact the Collision Investigation Unit on 101, quoting reference number 844 26/12/25.”

This comes after a man, 20, was killed in a “serious” crash in the early hours of St Stephen’s Day in Co Tyrone has been named as Padraig McDonald.

‘AN ENTIRE COMMUNITY IS HEARTBROKEN’

A teen has also been left with life-changing injuries and another has suffered serious facial injuries after the horror crash, the PSNI said.

McDonald, from Loughmacrory, died after a road crash on the Drum Road outside Cookstown this morning.

The PSNI said that they received a report that a silver Volkswagen Golf and a black Volkswagen Golf had collided at 12.40am.

A few minutes later, a black Vauxhall Corsa collided with one of the vehicles involved in the first collision.

McDonald was travelling in the silver Golf and died in hospital shortly after the incident, Chief Inspector Simpson of the Police Service’s Collision Investigation Unit said.

Four other occupants of the car were injured, with a boy in his late sustaining life-changing injuries.

Another boy suffered “serious facial injuries”, while the two other occupants injuries are not thought to be serious at this time, Simpson said.

POLICE PROBE

The Chief Inspector added: “The Drum Road remains closed as our enquiries continue.

“We would appeal to anyone who witnessed the collision, or who may have dashcam or CCTV footage which could assist with our investigation, to contact the Collision Investigation Unit on 101, quoting reference number 30 26/12/25.”

Sinn Fein MP Orfhlaith Begley said the “entire community” is heartbroken by the accident which has also left several others injured.

The West Tyrone MP said: “It’s devastating to learn Pádraig has tragically died.

“My immediate thoughts are with the McDonald family as they begin to process this terrible incident.

“An entire community and parish is heartbroken and in mourning today and I know that we will all do everything that we can to support these families in what will be difficult days to come.

“I also want to pay tribute to the emergency services for all their efforts and for attending the scene.

“Our thoughts and prayers are also with those injured, and I hope they make a full recovery.”
