Man, 40s, killed in horror crash in Kildare as gardai confirm busy road closed overnight amid probe into fatal incident

Gardai have issued a plea following the collision
A MAN in his 40s has died following a road traffic collision tonight.
Gardai and emergency services were called to the scene of the fatal incident this evening on the R445 near Monasterevin in Co Kildare.
The collision, involving a car and a pedestrian, happened at around 6pm on the R445 Monasterevin Road while travelling from Kildare Town towards Monasterevin.
The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene where investigations continue.
No other injuries have been reported following the incident.
In a statement, a Gardai spokesperson said: “Gardaí and emergency services are currently in attendance at the scene of a fatal road traffic collision on the R445 in Co. Kildare, Tuesday 30th December 2025.
“The collision involved a car and a pedestrian and occurred at approximately 6pm on the R445-Monasterevin Road, leaving Kildare Town in the direction of Monasterevin.
“The pedestrian, a man aged in his 40s, has been pronounced deceased and his body remains at the scene.”
The road is currently closed between Monasterevin and Kildare Town, with local diversions in place for motorists.
A technical examination of the scene will be carried out by Forensic Collision Investigators.
And Gardai are now asking anyone who witnessed the collision to come forward.
Road users who were travelling in the area between 5pm and 6.30pm and who may have dash-cam or other camera footage are asked to make it available to investigators.
GARDA APPEAL
Anyone with information is urged to contact Kildare Garda Station on 045 527730, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda station.
The spokesperson added: “Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this collision to contact them.
“Any road users, who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling in the area between 5:00pm and 6:30pm this evening are asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardaí.”
Meanwhile, a man, 20, killed in a “serious” crash in the early hours of St Stephen’s Day in Co Tyrone has been named as Padraig McDonald.
LIFE-CHANGING INJURIES
A teen has also been left with life-changing injuries and another has suffered serious facial injuries after the horror crash, the PSNI said.
McDonald, from Loughmacrory, died after a road crash on the Drum Road outside Cookstown this morning.
The PSNI said that they received a report that a silver Volkswagen Golf and a black Volkswagen Golf had collided at 12.40am.
A few minutes later, a black Vauxhall Corsa collided with one of the vehicles involved in the first collision.
OCCUPANTS INJURED
McDonald was travelling in the silver Golf and died in hospital shortly after the incident, Chief Inspector Simpson of the Police Service’s Collision Investigation Unit said.
Four other occupants of the car were injured, with a boy in his late sustaining life-changing injuries.
Another boy suffered “serious facial injuries”, while the two other occupants injuries are not thought to be serious at this time, Simpson said.
