Man, 40s, dies in Christmas Day road tragedy as e-scooter and car crash in Waterford leaving second man injured

It comes just a day after another man died in a crash between a lorry and a car in Co Limerick on Christmas Eve
A MAN aged in his 40s has died in a collision involving a car and an e-scooter in Co Waterford this Christmas morning.

The man was taken to hospital where he was later pronounced dead, while the driver of the car – a man in his 80s – was hospitalised with non life-threatening injuries.

The incident took place at the junction of Manor Hill, Bunker’s Hill, and Hennessy’s Road in Waterford city at approximately 11am this morning.

The fatally injured man, aged in his 40s, who was a driver of the e-scooter, was pronounced dead at University Hospital Waterford.

The driver of the car, a man in his 80s, was taken to University Hospital Waterford for treatment of injuries believed to be non life-threatening.

It is understood that no other injuries were reported at this time.

The junction of Manor Hill, Bunker’s Hill, and Hennessy’s Road is currently closed pending a technical examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators.

Local diversions have been put in place.

Gardai are urging anyone who may have witnessed the incident to come forward.

A spokesperson for the force said: “Gardai are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this collision to contact them.

“Any road users, who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling on Manor Hill (Bunker’s Hill) and Hennessy’s Road between 10.45am and 11.15am are asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardai.

“Anyone with information is asked to contact Waterford Garda Station on (051) 305300, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda station.

“Investigations are ongoing.

CHRISTMAS EVE CRASH HORROR

The fatal collision comes just a day after another man, aged in his 20s, lost his life in a crash between a lorry and a car in Co Limerick on Christmas Eve.

The driver of the car was pronounced dead at the scene of the collision and the lorry driver, a man aged in his 20s, has been taken to hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

Gardai have not confirmed the identity of person who was fatally injured in the incident.

The horror crash took place on the N20 road in the Bruree area of Co Limerick at around 2am in the early hours of yesterday morning.

Gardai are urging anyone who may have witnessed the collision to come forward.

In a statement this morning, a spokesperson for the force said: “Anyone who was travelling on the N20 in the Bruree area between 1:40am and 2:15am is asked to make contact with investigating Gardai.

“Road users with camera footage (including dash-cam) are asked to make that footage available.

“Investigations are ongoing.”
