Mayo GAA ace marries Galway LGFA star in glam wedding at four-star estate as fans gush over ‘stunning’ homemade dress

THE rivalry between Mayo and Galway was put to one side as Stephen Coen married soulmate Charlotte Cooney.
The happy couple tied the knot at the four-star Johnstown Estate on Friday, surrounded by friends and loved ones.



Coen is best known for his exploits on the field, winning All-Ireland titles at minor and under-21 level with Mayo.
He is also a two-time Connacht football champion with the seniors, winning the provincial title in 2020 and 2021.
His club Hollymount Carramore GAA Club wished the couple well, saying: “Hollymount Carramore GAA Club would like to wish Stephen Coen and his bride-to-be Charlotte Cooney all the very best on their Wedding Day!
“We wish them a lifetime of Health and Happiness together!”
Charlotte Cooney, meanwhile, boasts a decorated camogie and football CV with Galway.
She was part of the team that got to the All-Ireland football final in 2024, ultimately losing to Kerry.
She helped her club Claregalway win an All-Ireland intermediate club football title in 2013.
Her club also paid tribute, saying: “Everyone in Claregalway GAA would like to send our very best wishes to Charlotte Cooney, who has been part of the club for many years, and her partner Stephen Coen, as they tie the knot later today.
“We hope today is filled with love, laughter and memories that will last a lifetime.”
Cooney shared a gorgeous loved up photo from the big day to Instagram, with the bride in a stunning white gown that she herself designed and her mum created.
The groom, meanwhile, donned a suave suit.
Fans took to the comments to gush over the newlyweds, with one saying: “Congratulations to you both You look beautiful Charlotte x”.
“A second commented: “Most stunning bride ” while a third said: “Stunning great great day .
A fourth said: “Amazing congratulations xxx” and a fifth hailed: “Charlotte you look fab congratulations guys xx”.
The couple got engaged in November 2023 while travelling the beautiful sights offered up by South-East Asia.
Recapping what turned out to be a life-changing trip, she wrote: “Vietnam (tick emoji), Singapore (tick emoji), Bali (tick emoji).
“Ha Long Bay (engagement ring emoji) 6/11/23. Here’s to the next chapter.”
Among the well-wishers came a nice message from the Galway Footballers Homepage on Facebook.
It read: “Congratulations to Galway’s Charlotte Cooney and Mayo’s Stephen Coen on their recent engagement.
“Wishing you both all the best for the future.”
